9: Allies and Enemies Ch 6 In the early afternoon, 10, 13, and 17 scrubbed the floors of the barn using old toothbrushes for their punishment. When no one was within earshot, 10 crept closer to 13.

"Can I talk to you?" he said.

"Of course," she said.

"It's about 11. I wasn't sure at first, but now it's getting hard to ignore."

13 tilted her head.

10 took a deep breath and stopped scrubbing, "I've been thinking 14 and 15 wouldn't just start using the bodies of our brothers, unless if they were receiving orders." He looked at the ground. "I think 11's the culprit."

13 jerked back and stopped scrubbing as well, "How can you say such a thing? 11 may be strict,

 "Kill us? Why would he want to kill us?" 13 demanded.

"You know too much already," 14 said as she tried to push. "You must run. Now!"

A low growling drifted through the house. They all turned and looked into the furthest recesses of the hallway. In the darkness, two red lights shined through. The lights came closer. A figure appeared against the dark light and towered over them, easily three times larger than any of them. There, a creature made of burlap stood. His stitched torso and arms dwarfed his small waist and legs. His long arms dragged along the ground. For teeth, rows of razor blades stuck out every which way, making it impossib
9: Allies and Enemies Ch 4 That evening, 1 and 11's sat against the walls of the loft. 8 and 12 were by their side, standing guard.

"Remember that time you accidentally spilled the professor's formula and it burned a hole through the table?" 1 chuckled.

11 placed a hand on his forehead and laughed. "Oh yes. I was such a klutz."

"We were young. What did we know? Speaking of which, whatever happened to 10?"

The smile melted off 11's face. "He died."

"Oh, I'm terribly sorry. What happened?"

"He was just a prototype. He didn't stand a chance in the war. But you have to admit, he was a silly idealist. He always had the silliest fantasies about a peaceful world.
